J. Mark Mogavero, Olympic gold medalist, probation director

J. Mark Mogavero, 88, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010.
Born in Buffalo, Mogavero was an Erie County probation director. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and earned two degrees from Canisius College in Buffalo.
Mr. Mogavero was a gold medalwinning Olympian for table tennis and a former member of the U.S. Army. He was an active member of the National Senior Games Association, Ken-Ton Senior Center, Ken-Ton Drug Abuse Prevention Council, St. Andrew’s Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Andrew’s Church.M r. Mogavero is survived by his daughters, Mary Beth McKinney and Joanne Padlog, and his son, Mark N. Mogavero. Services were held Monday, Aug. 30, at Greco Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian Burial followed on Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Church.
