Inspired by the movie “Groundhog Day,” the Village of Kenmore plans to host its own celebration honoring the little critter’s weather prediction.

Sponsored by The Kenmore Village Improvement Society, residents are invited to attend an inaugural Groundhog Day Celebration being held at 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Village Green, located at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Delaware Road.

“I love the ‘Groundhog Day’ movie, especially the scene with the festival for the groundhog. It’s so exciting that we are going to create our own version of that celebration,” said KVIS President Melissa Foster.

“Neighbors are welcome to stop by on their way to work or school to enjoy the festivities and discover firsthand whether we’ll welcome spring or enjoy six more weeks of what surely will go down in history as one of the warmest winters on record,” Foster said.

The event will feature music from the Kenmore West High School band, along with free coffee, hot chocolate and a special groundhog treat compliments of Paula’s Donuts.

Also, during the celebration, village dignitaries will announce if the groundhog has seen or not seen his shadow, and KVIS will honor the winner from the

“Name the Groundhog” contest.

Entry forms were published in the Jan. 18 and 25 editions of The Bee and also can be found on the KVIS website, www.villa geofkenmore.com.

Entries from The Bee need to be submitted by Friday. Jan. 27. Mail the forms to “Name the Groundhog,” Bee Group Newspapers, 5564 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14221.
