Chili cook-off set at Church of the Advent
The Church of the Advent will host its 7th annual Chili Cook-Off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at its campus located at 54 Delaware Road in Kenmore. Prizes will be awarded for the three top chilis. For more information, call 876-6504.

Remembrance ceremony to be held at hospital
Remembrance service honors d Kenmore Mercy Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, will hold a special Candlelight Remembrance Service from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, to remember recently deceased patients. The service will be held in the hospital’s Community Room located at 2950 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore. For more information call 447-6191.
Support group available for widowed women
Support group meetings for widowed women of all ages will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the YWCA Tonawandas, 49 Tremont St. North Tonawanda. There is no fee. The group will meet every first Thursday of each month, starting on Feb. 1. Future dates will be March 7, April 4, May 2 and June 6. Contact Susie Sheron at the YWCA to register, 692-5580.
All-you-can-eat Chili available Feb. 4
Blessed Sacrament Church, 263, Claremont Ave., Tonawanda, will be the site for St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy’s Soup-er Chili Nite — all-you-can-eat chili — being held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 in the Parish Center. Admission $12/per person, children under 12 free. A 50/50 raffle and a Soup-er Chinese auction will featured during the event. Take out available.
Valentine’s Day luncheon planned at church
The Faith United Methodist Women will hold their annual Valentine Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the church, 5505 Broadway, Lancaster. A silent auction and bake sale will begin at noon with the luncheon beginning at 12:30 p.m. Chicken casserole, vegetable, cranberry salad and cheesecake with cherries are on the menu. Ring Masters Handbell Choir, directed by Gloria Werblow, will perform. The cost is $8 and funds mission work Paid reservations are needed by Feb. 5.
