Library makeover complete
The Town of Tonawanda Public Library – Kenmore Branch, scheduled for temporary closure from Jan. 23 through Feb. 5, has to extend its closing for further construction. The library will reopen on Feb. 8, featuring many updates.
“There were many movements that we had to make with the library materials due to the carpeting so we need to put these items in the correct locations,” explained Dorinda Darden, the town’s public library director. “Also the cabling and wiring for the computers [was being completed Friday], but it has caused delays in being able to store our media in the media displayers.”
As part of the renovations, the facility has a new circulation desk; a children’s area that is separated by a wall partition, making it more welcoming for children and parents; a new computer area with 30 library study carrels; a magazine area with wooden bookshelves; and a lounge area.
“We also have media displayers that will be used for our CDs [which have been stored in the staff workroom], DVDs and videos,” said Darden. “The children’s area and the lounge area have different carpeting than the main areas of the library. These renovations have allowed us to utilize the space in the library more efficiently. We also have new automatic doors on the first floor of the library.”
The Kenmore Branch is located at 160 Delaware Road, near Chapel Road, in the Village of Kenmore.
Once it reopens, the hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
