Town of Tonawanda Clerk Marguerite Greco reminds residents of the many convenient payment processes available to them for meeting the Wednesday, Feb. 15, deadline for Erie County and the Town of Tonawanda property taxes.

Tax payments by check or money order can be mailed to the Town Clerk’s Office, 2919 Delaware Ave., Room 14, Municipal Building, Kenmore, NY 14217-2308. For those who wish to pay in person, the office hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and for added convenience, until 8 p.m. Feb. 15.

Additionally, a drop-box is located on the Delaware Road side of the Municipal Building by the handicap entrance (near the rear of the building). Individuals may use this to pay their taxes any time of day or night, including weekends.

Residents wishing to pay by credit card can visit the town’s website at www.tonawanda.ny.us and click “Pay Taxes On-Line.” Transaction terms and conditions apply.

All transactions are subject to third-party service fees: $2.50 for payments 1 cent to $100, or 2.5 percent for payments greater than $100.

Online payments post immediately to the town tax system; any payment posting after midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 15, will be subject to late fees and penalties. Online credit card payments can also be made from a computer in the vestibule of the Town Clerk’s Office, or by phone at 877-8800, ext. 810.

If tax payments are made using online banking, the payment must be received at least 10 days prior to the Feb. 15 due date to ensure that the tax bill is paid on time. Since this transaction is not immediately transferred to a town account, banks cannot guarantee that the payment will be delivered to the clerk’s office by the due date.

The last day to pay the 2012 county tax bill without penalty is Feb. 15. Any payment received in person or postmarked after that day will be assessed penalties and interest as set forth on the back of the tax bill. The date of payment cannot be determined by the date of the check or the date the funds are withdrawn from an account.
