The Tonawanda Bantam Thunder hockey team won the Hamilton Friendship Tournament this past weekend by defeating the Hamilton Bengals, 3-2. The Thunder were able to hold on to the one-goal lead throughout the third period by an excellent all-around effort. Tonawanda’s first goal was scored by Brandon Fox, which was followed by two quick goals by Hamilton. In the second period, defenseman Vinny Militello rushed the puck from his own zone over the offensive blue line and fired a laser shot over the goalie’s glove hand. Shortly after, Steven Tirone was hit behind the net, but recovered to get back to the far side of the net to get a pass off of a Hamilton turnover to score from point-blank range. In the third period, Fox hit the goalpost and at the end of the game, with the goalie out, Eliott Hunt also hit the goal post. After several big face-off wins deep in their own zone, the Thunder managed to keep the one-goal lead and secure the victory.
