Sweet Home’s depth helps girls win Team Challenge, boys place second at Fredonia
The depth on the Sweet Home girls and boys indoor track and field teams were on display at the Varsity Team Challenge Saturday at Fredonia State College.
The girls team won the event for the first time in school history with a total score of 58 points. The boys team took second with 58 points. It’s the first time the boys had placed that high at the event.
Combining both scores, Sweet Home took second overall with 116 points. Clarence was first with 122 points.
“We talked about both teams trying to be in the mix,” Sweet Home coach Brian Lombardo said. “Depth is one of our keys. A lot of the fourth, fifth and sixth places made a difference. We had two or three girls and guys that did not have to run relays at the end of the meet because we had other people we could put in.”
