Lomeo to deliver St. Joe’s commencement speech


Lomeo Lomeo On Thursday, Kaleida Health President and CEO Jody Lomeo will address the graduates of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute during the commencement ceremony at Kleinhan’s Music Hall.

The evening will celebrate the 191 members of the Class of 2017 and more than 50 members of the Class of 1967, which is a tradition at St. Joe’s.

Lomeo, a 1986 graduate, is an active member of the St. Joe’s community. Earlier this year, Lomeo and his wife, Mary, served as chair couple of the Lasallian Gala, the school’s annual fundraising event.

Their two sons, John and Vinny, are currently enrolled at St. Joe’s, and third son Joe will be enrolled soon. In addition, Lomeo was recently inducted into the Signum Fidei Society, the highest honor bestowed upon a St. Joe’s graduate.

“It’s truly an honor to deliver the commencement address to the outstanding young men from the Class of 2017 and their families,” Lomeo said. “The evening is an exciting celebration and recognition of the four years of dedication and hard work required of a St. Joe’s graduate.”

According to a prepared statement, Lomeo is a devoted advocate for health care in Western New York. In addition to his role as president and CEO of Kaleida, he holds the same leadership positions at Great Lakes Health System of Western New York. The parent organization is responsible for integrating the clinical activities of Kaleida Health, Erie County Medical Center, University at Buffalo and the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.

Currently, Lomeo is leading the planning, financing and construction of the soon-to-be-opened $270 million John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. According to the statement, Lomeo is recognized for his collaborative and inclusive leadership style and has facilitated many programs that have increased the quality of patient care.

A former member of the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute’s board of trustees, he is a current member of the board of directors at Evans Bank and the Greater New York Hospital Association.

“We are very pleased that Jody has accepted the invitation to be our commencement speaker this year,” said St. Joe’s President Robert T. Scott. “He is truly representative of the faith, character, and integrity we instill in the young men of St. Joe’s.”
