SJCI has good showing at rowing meet


The St. Joe’s Freshman 8 boat of Jack Pratt, Ryan Costolnick, Christian Ohle, David Crooks, Matt Fay, James Starck, Ryan O'Donnell, Aaron Buckley and coxswain Dan Benedetti competes at the New York State Scholastic Championships Saturday. St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute competed in the New York State Scholastic Championships this weekend, bringing home two silver medals and one bronze medal.

In spring sprint racing on Fish Creek in Saratoga, New York, the Freshman 8 boat finished second, setting a school record at State Championships (Jack Pratt, Ryan Costolnick, Christian Ohle, David Crooks, Matt Fay, James Starck, Ryan O’Donnell, Aaron Buckley, coxswain: Dan Benedetti).

The Novice 4 boat, in what amounted to a two-boat race, won silver in a very close finish (Tyler Carr, Will Ainsworth, Ethan Denzak, Trent Gondek, Coxswain: Alex Stanley).

The Varsity 8 boat won bronze in a very strong finish in a highly competitive field. (Charlie Pratt, Rob Beaulieu, Ty Slaugenhoupt, Josh Costolnick, Mason Benz, Jackson Liszewski, Nathan Shanley, Matt Dobiesz, Coxswain: Charlie Ivancic).

Both the Varsity 8 and Freshman 8 advance to Nationals to be held on Friday, May 26, and Saturday, May 27.
