35th annual Canal Fest to open on Sunday

by ANNA WALTERS
Editor

Canal Fest of the Tonawandas will return to provide eight days of entertainment from Sunday, July 16, through Sunday, July 23.

The festival will feature live music, food, carnival rides and a variety of events.

Individuals can save 50 percent or more on Canal Fest presale ride tickets and get 10 rides for $20.

Tickets can be purchased at www.canalfest.org by clicking on the presale ticket button or by visiting www.carrouselmuseum.org and clicking on the online store.

When the rides are in operation, online vouchers can be redeemed at the Carousel Society booth near the center of the midway.

Each ticket is good for one ride, regardless of size, with the exception of the Speed, which requires two presale tickets, according to a prepared statement. There is a convenience fee of $2 per 10-ride card when purchased online.

According to the statement, tickets can be used anytime during Canal Fest and can be saved for another year or at another event where Powers Great American Midway is the ride concessionaire.

The presale tickets are available only until Sunday, July 16. None will be sold once Canal Fest begins.

Presale tickets can be purchased in person at the following locations:

Lane Jewelers, 28 Seymour St., City of Tonawanda

Tops Friendly Markets, 890 Young St., City of Tonawanda

Tops Friendly Markets, 150 Niagara St., City of Tonawanda

Tops Friendly Markets, 301 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda

Budwey’s Super Market, 535 Division St., North Tonawanda

The Corner Store, 1091 Oliver St., North Tonawanda

Tickets are also available at the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St. in North Tonawanda. They can be charged online or at the Carrousel Museum.

New this year is the availability of pay-one-price ride bracelets every day during the festival. The bracelet cost is $22, or $20 with a coupon available at the Carrousel Museum and Canal Fest corporate tents.

Powers Great American Midways will be providing the rides and midway. Also, a percentage of the proceeds from ride tickets will benefit the daily operation of the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum.

For more information about the presale tickets, contact the museum at 693-1885.

The opening ceremonies for the 35th annual event will take place at noon Sunday, July 16, on the Renaissance Bridge.

The festival’s premiere events include: a Chalk-It-Up street art contest and vintage fire equipment on July 16; Canal Fest Parade on July 18; annual Car Cruise on July 19; Tim Frank Memorial 4-Miler Run and Diaper Derby on July 20; Webster Street Bike Cruise on July 21; Sika Cup and Duck Race on July 22; a two-day arts and crafts show July 22 and 23; and a fireworks show on July 23.
