Susan L. Grabenstatter, former Ken-Ton teacher


Grabenstatter Grabenstatter Susan L. Grabenstatter (nee Veil), 70, of Lake View, New York, formerly of Kenmore, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017.

Mrs. Grabenstatter was born on Oct. 18, 1947, in Bellevue, Pennsylvania. After her father’s death, she moved with her mother to Buffalo in 1957 to live with her maternal grandmother and remained in the area the rest of her life.

After attending Public School No. 56 and Lafayette High School, Mrs. Grabenstatter earned her bachelor’s degree at Geneseo State College and received a master’s degree from the University at Albany.

She was a high school English teacher in the Ken-Ton School District from 1970 to 2011 and taught at Kenmore East High School for all but one year (1990-91), when she taught at Kenmore West. Mrs. Grabenstatter was a New York State Teacher of the Year candidate and Lederhosen Ski Queen of 1973-74.

She was an avid knitter, reader, member of the Buffalo Yacht Club and season ticket subscriber of Studio Arena from the 1970s until its closure. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Mrs. Grabenstatter is survived by her husband, John; two children, Katherine Szwarc and Mary Grabenstatter; two grandchildren; and one sibling, Jeffrey Wilber.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2669 Sheridan Drive, Tonawanda. Arrangements were made by the Amigone Funeral Home Inc.
