Library hours

Winter hours are: noon to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The library is closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Library events

A special Preschool Story Time, “A Day at the Beach,” will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The free event, for ages 3½ to 5, will feature stories, games and a craft, all inspired by a trip to the beach. Registration is required. A Craft Club will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. The club is for ages 5 and up, and participants will use simple shapes to create a decoration for Valentine’s Day. Registration is required. Reading with Gus, for ages 5 to 12, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 14. Appointments are available between 6 and 7:30 p.m. Individuals can sign up for a free 15-minute reading session to read to Gus, a licensed therapy dog. Registration is required. Library events

Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 5, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Participants can enjoy stories, finger plays, songs and crafts, among other activities. Registration is required and space is limited. Toddler Time for Twos, for children 2 years of age with a caregiver, will be held at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9. Participants can enjoy stories, finger plays, songs and a craft. Registration is required, and space is limited. Books & Barks will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. Children, ages 5 to 12, can improve their literacy skills and reading confidence. Sign up for a 15-minute session to read to Gus, a licensed therapy dog. Registration is required. AARP will provide free tax assistance for adults on Monday, Feb. 12. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the door by 8 a.m. Individuals will be seen in order on the list. The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, for Presidents Day. A computer coach will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 13. A volunteer will be helping participants with email, Microsoft Word, using the internet and scanning. No appointment is needed. Additionally, services available are based on volunteer availability. Homework Helpers will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Helpers can work with students in grades one through seven to check and/or help with assignments. The group is run by student volunteers from Kenmore West’s International Baccalaureate Program. The program is dependent on volunteer availability. Library events

Book Babies, for ages 3 months to 23 months with an adult caregiver, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Registration is required. Drop-in chess will be held from 2:15

to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. Participants can meet other chess players. Whether a novice or seasoned player, individuals can stop in for a game of chess. A Beach Party Bash will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. Individuals can enjoy music, snow cones and the magic of Mr. J. Dress for summer. Attendees can wear their shades and bring a beach towel to sit on. Registration is required. Family Story Time, for ages 2 to 5 with an adult caregiver, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12. Registration is required. Mother Goose on the Loose, for ages 2 to 4 with a parent or caregiver, will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, and Tuesday, Feb. 13. Registration is required. Book a Technology Trainer will take place at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Participants can get a one-on-one 45-minute session on computer basics, setting up a Facebook account, setting up a Skype account, iPad basics and Kindle Fire basics, among other topics. Library events

Teen Advisory Board will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the conference room. The program is for teens ages 13 to 18. Individuals can create a Valentine heart tree craft. Children 5 and younger may need a parent’s help. Registration isn’t required. A genealogy program will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. Individuals can learn the basics of genealogy, where to start, and which print and internet resources to use. Library events

A Valentine’s Day Party will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. Children can decorate boxes to hold their Valentine’s Day cards. Parents should bring an empty Kleenex box and 15 signed valentine cards for their child to pass out. Call 332-4375 to sign up. A senior luncheon potluck will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 14. Attendees can learn how they can keep their bones healthy and strong with nurse Maureen McCabe, patient educator for Catholic Health. Registration is required. Laughter Yoga is held at 11 a.m. Thursdays. Dawn and Craig Werner lead participants through specialized laughing routines to keep them healthy and relaxed. Adult Coloring takes place from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays. The program, which is not a class, is a casual environment where individuals can relax and meet new friends.
