Kenmore swimmers finish second at NFL meet


Kenmore swimmers Matt Walker and Ben Harper each won two individual events and were part of the winning 200 freestyle relay squad at the NFL Championship Meet. The combined East-West team had a good showing in its first postseason meet. The combined East-West team had a good showing in its first postseason meet. The Kenmore combined swim team had some solid performances at the NFL Championship Meet over the weekend. It was the team’s first postseason event since combining the East and West programs.

Matt Walker and Ben Harper both won two races each. Walker took first in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke at 1:00.58. Harper won the 50 freestyle in 21.54 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 48.85 seconds.

The 200 freestyle relay of Walker, Colin Janis, Brandon Garcia and Harper won in a time of 1:32.4.

The 200 medley relay of Mujahed Merae, Walker, Janis and Nathan Ruffino started things off well with a second-place finish in a time of 1:46.06.

Garcia was second in the 500 freestyle at 5:20.19 and fourth in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.08.

Owen Lake took fifth in the one-meter dive with 272.6 points. Janis was fifth in the 100 butterfly at 59.97 seconds. Merae was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.82. The 400 freestyle relay of Garcia, Merae, Harper and Nathan Ruffino won their event in 3:39.32.
