Kenmore Lions Club presents awards

Winners of the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest and Peace Essay Contest were recently honored at a luncheon meeting of the Kenmore Lions Club.

The theme was “The Future of Peace,” and parents and teachers were also in attendance.

Lion Joe Argenio, immediate past president and co-chairman of the contests, presented a $75 check to Kelsey Hammel as the first-place poster winner.

Audrey Roberts received $50 for her second-place poster, and Alex Mazurek was awarded $25 for placing third. All are eighth-grade students at St. John the Baptist School.

Winner of the Peace Essay Contest was Tiffany Simpson, a student at Kenmore East High School, who received a check for $75. Additionally, Alexis Lattimore of Hoover Middle School was awarded $50 for placing second and Isabella Storm, also of Hoover, was awarded $25 for placing third.

Tiffany also won the Lions District 20 N competition and the New York State competition. She read her essay at the luncheon.

The teachers who were honored included Carol A. Bunny of St. John the Baptist School and Alicia Schwock of the Ken-Ton School District. Lion Charles Anzalone was also a co-chairman of the contest.
