American Legion Band to present Pops Concert

The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas Post 264 will present its Riviera Spring Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

There will be a pre-concert organ performance at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $16 at Walker Bros. & Monroe Jewelers, at 84 Webster St.; Mid-City Opticians, at 968 Payne Ave.; and the Tonawanda Senior Center, at 35 Main St.

The 85-member American Legion National Championship Band, conducted by Michael Shaw, will perform a symphonic pops program in the style and tradition of John Philip Sousa.

On the program are famous marches, such as “Godspeed!” by Stephen Melillo; “A Weekend in New York” by Philip Sparke; “The Purple Carnival” by Harry Alford; “Il Guarany Overture” by Antônio Gomes; and “Carousel” by Richard Rodgers.

The concert will feature vocalists Mary Kofahl and Bruce Montgomery.
