EXPECT DELAYS — When traveling, among the many things I hate to encounter are unexpected road closures or detours.

This ranks in my top five travel pet peeves which also includes getting pulled over for a minor travel violation, drivers talking on cellphones, road kill in the middle of the street, and rubberneckers viewing an motor vehicle accident

With that said, I’m notifying you of upcoming road closures that will occur this weekend along Interstate 190, which travels through Tonawanda.

The second of three consecutive weekend road closures on I-190 is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, through 6 a.m. Monday April 23, according to a release issued by the New York State Thruway Authority on Monday.

All northbound traffic will be detoured off the Niagara Expressway (I-190) at Exit 14 (Vulcan Street).

Motorists looking to return to northbound I-190 should follow posted detour signs and re-enter I-190 beyond the work zone at River Road in the Town of Tonawanda.

Motorists seeking eastbound I-290 should follow the posted detour and use Grand Island Boulevard on-ramp to I-290.

Tandem trucks will not be allowed northbound beyond Exit 9 (Peace Bridge).

This construction project includes rehabilitating existing pavement on both the northbound and southbound sections of I-190.

In addition to road repairs, the contractor will replace overhead signage, complete shoulder and ramp repair work, and clean and seal pavement joints.

The last weekend closure, weather permitting, is scheduled for:

• Friday, April 27, through Monday, April 30, southbound from Sheridan Drive (Exit 15) to Ontario Street (Exit 14).

I hope this tip helps you when making your weekend travel plans.
