Fun Run to remember Coach Reuter scheduled

The Fourth Annual Lou Reuter Memorial Scholarship Run is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 20 at Ben Franklin Elementary School, 540 Parkhurst Blvd., Tonawanda, with the fun run/walk to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K to begin at 10 a.m. The race will start at the elementary school and end on the track within Adams Fields.

There are 13 age groups that range from age 14 and younger, up to age 70 and older. There will be awards given to the top three finishers in each age group. In addition, there will be a team race for the elementary and secondary schools, as well as any varsity sports team within Ken-Ton. A trophy will be awarded to the top team in each category for the best combined five-runner time.

The entry fee is $20, or $10 for students age 20 and younger. The first 200 registrants will receive a free T-shirt, and proceeds of the race benefit the Lou Reuter Scholarship Fund.

Online registration can be done by visiting www.signmeup.com and entering Lou Reuter Memorial Scholarship Run in the “Find Event” tab at the top of the screen.

Those who sign up early can pick up the race packet on Friday, Oct. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ben Franklin Elementary School cafeteria. Otherwise, registration and packet pick up will be at 7 a.m. the morning of the race at the elementary school.

Reuter was a dedicated teacher, coach, and member of the Kenmore Town of Tonawanda Board of Education. He also served as the western region coordinator for the Empire State Games.

There will be one scholarship awarded to a Kenmore East senior who demonstrates community service and school spirit, is involved in school activities, has finished in the top 40 percent of their class and been accepted to an accredited college.

Following the race there will be a post-race party at noon, for those at least 21 years old, at Caputi’s Sheridan Pub, 2351 Sheridan Dr., Tonawanda.
