St. John students collect cellphones, eyeglasses

Students at St. John the Baptist school in Kenmore recently organized a used eyeglasses and cellphones drive to benefit two nonprofit organizations: Cell Phones for Soldiers and The Lions Club of Kenmore.

Students in the sixth grade organized the drive, encouraging those in grades four through eight to collect used cellphones and prescription eyeglasses.

The cellphones will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers, an organization that recycles and purchases phone cards to give to military personnel. This allows them to stay in touch with their families. More than 150 cellphones were collected.

The eyeglasses will be donated to the Lions Club. More than 175 were collected.
