Edison Elementary students take part in wellness week

Students at Edison Elementary School were recently treated to a week of wellness-related activities, which gave them the opportunity to say thanks to multiple community organizations dedicated to keeping Western New Yorkers healthy.

To kick off the week, students were treated to a Theatre of Youth performance, “The Fit Kids Get Fit,” as a result of the students’ participation in an Independent Health Fitness for Kids and Fuel Up to Play 60 challenge in October.

The following day, students were able to take part in tae kwon do exercises led by Lisa Susko, owner and lead instructor of Jindo Martial Arts, during physical education class. Then, on Wednesday, Lisa Pasnik, youth nutrition coordinator with the Food Bank of WNY, visited physical education classes to highlight the importance of a diet filled with healthy fruits and vegetables.

On Nov. 19, students were able to “taste the rainbow” by sampling a variety of fruits and vegetables such as pomegranate seeds, orange peppers, lemons, snow peas and blackberries, many for the first time. This activity was also made possible by the Fitness for Kids Challenge and Independent Health.

To cap off the week, students took part in Edison Elementary School’s 10th annual indoor Turkey Trot.
