Gerald L. Baskey, retired lawyer

Gerald “Jerry” Louis Baskey, 86, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017.

Mr. Baskey graduated from high school in Bound Brook, New Jersey, before moving to Buffalo in the late 1940s. He went on to Canisius College, followed by the University of Buffalo Law School.

During law school, he held various jobs, including driving a taxi, setting bowling pins, and working in the National Biscuit factory.

While working at National Biscuit, he met his wife, Alice Szalecki, who was studying to be a teacher at Buffalo State College.

Mr. Baskey graduated cum laude from UB in 1957. He formed a partnership in the 1970s with Bart Danahy, specializing in liability, and was located in the Ellicott Square Building.

He bought a home in West Seneca in 1965, where his family lived until 2010. He and Alice enjoyed traveling, which, in addition to many places in the United States, included trips to Spain, Italy, France, England, Scandinavia and the Caribbean. He also enjoyed pinochle, jogging, tennis and reading.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Baskey is survived by two children, Michael and Patricia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Frank and Anne Marie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at St. Timothy’s Church, 565 E. Park Drive, Tonawanda. Arrangements were made by the D. Lawrence Ginnane Funeral Home.
