Lou Reuter Memorial Scholarship Run set for Oct. 15

The eighth annual Lou Reuter Memorial Scholarship Run will take place Sunday, Oct. 15.

All proceeds will go to the Lou Reuter Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to Kenmore East High School graduates in honor of a beloved Kenmore East teacher and coach.

The event will consist of a 5K at 10 a.m. and a fun run/walk at 9:30 a.m. The course will start in front of Franklin Elementary School and end on the track at Adams Field in front of the Lou Reuter press box.

Guests are encouraged to park behind Ben Franklin Middle School and enter the building through Door No. 15.

Registration costs $20 for ages 21 and up and $10 for ages 20 and younger.

Walkers and runners can register at www.runsignup.com and search “Lou Reuter.”

Reuter, an advocate for youth sports, was a longtime Kenmore East High School social studies teacher and football coach.

He also served on the Kenmore Town of Tonawanda Board of Education after his retirement and as the Western Region coordinator for the Empire State Games.

The press box at Adams Field, home of the Kenmore East Bulldogs, is named in his honor.

The scholarship is awarded each year in Reuter’s memory to a Kenmore East High School senior who demonstrates community service and school spirit, is involved in school activities, has finished in the top 40 percent of his or her class, and has been accepted to an accredited college.
