Applications available for NT decorating contest

The mayor’s office in conjunction with the North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation, Parks and Seniors is accepting entries for the city’s Decorate for the Holidays contest.

The contest is open to any North Tonawanda resident who decorates a home or business for the holiday season. Entries are being accepted until Dec. 12.

Residents are also welcome to nominate their neighbor.

Entry forms are available at the mayor’s office and the Recreation office, located at 500 Wheatfield St. Forms are also available online at www.ntparksrec.com.

Holiday lights will be judged from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14.

Participants are encouraged to follow the below criteria for choosing their category:

Griswold: Nonconventional methods of decorating in an over-the-top fashion. Individuals should use every space of their house and lawn with a mixture of lights.

Classic: Lighting is conventional and old-fashioned looking. Individuals should use wreaths, garland, deer, and trees as light displays.

Themed: Stick to one idea or one lighting concept. Individuals should use one for display, such as gingerbread, Santa’s workshop or religion.

Business: Window or storefront display, which has a holiday theme, such as Disney or snowmen.

For more information, contact the Recreation office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 695-8520.
