Winterfest events planned for Jan. 11-15

With events ranging from wine tasting to ice skating and children’s activities, Winterfest will return Jan. 11 to 15 in the Town of Tonawanda.

“We have a lot of great facilities in our town, and Winterfest weekend provides families with the opportunity to get out and explore many of them,” said Dan Crangle, councilman and chairman of the Youth, Parks and Recreation Committee.

Kicking off Winterfest, an adult dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Town of Tonawanda Senior Center, 291 Ensminger Road.

Tickets cost $3 for Senior Center members and $5 for nonmembers. Food and drinks are included in admission, and tickets must be purchased in advance.

A Winterfest wine tasting, featuring six samples paired with food, will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Senior Center.

Tickets are available at the Senior Center or the Youth, Parks and Recreation Department, located at 299 Decatur Road.

The cost is $22 per person. There will be no registrations taken at the door, so reservations are required. This event is for ages 21 and up only.

Activities for all ages are planned for Saturday, Jan. 13. According to the Youth, Parks and Recreation Department, Lincoln arena will be the site for ice hockey games, free recreational skating, hay rides, a straw maze, Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels chili tasting, Resurgence beer tasting, live music and a fireworks show, among other activities.

“We are really excited to be bringing live music and hay rides back to Lincoln Park as part of Winterfest,” Crangle said.

No events are planned for Sunday, Jan. 14.

Then on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 15, the Town Police Club will be sponsoring a free recreational skate pizza party at Lincoln Arena. There will also be a free recreational swim, featuring a disc jockey, happening at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

Saturday, Jan. 13

Youth hockey games; Tonawanda Thunder vs. Coronation from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Lincoln Arena.

Zumba class from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the DFK Pavilion.

Adult outdoor softball 1-pitch tournament, men’s divisions, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Park. The cost is $80 per team, and preregistration is required.

Lloyd Taco Truck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., located on the west side of the arena, at the drop-off circle.

The Buffalo Zoomobile, Nick Presents Magic, crafts, games, face painting, and Tank the Police Dog, among other activities, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the DFK Pavilion.

Hay rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside Lincoln Arena

Straw maze and outdoor games will be ongoing, outside Lincoln Arena.

Town of Tonawanda Police Department vs. Ellwood Volunteer Fire Department at 2 p.m. at Lincoln Arena.

The game will benefit the Ken-Ton Closet.

Recreational ice skating with appearance by Sabretooth, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Lincoln Arena.

Beer tasting featuring Resurgence Brewery from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the DFK Pavilion. The cost is $20 for 10 tasting tickets and a souvenir glass. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Youth, Parks & Recreation office or at the Senior Center. The event is for ages 21 and up.

Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels chili tasting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln Arena. The cost is $2 for three samples or $5 for a bowl with toppings and a drink.

16th annual Kenmore East vs. Kenmore West Federation Exhibition Hockey Game from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lincoln Arena.

Lloyd Taco Truck will be available from 6 to 10 p.m. outside Lincoln Arena.

Fireworks at 7:15 p.m. at Lincoln Park.

Recreational ice skating from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park.

The Strictly Hip acoustic duo will perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the DFK Pavilion.

Monday, Jan. 15

Free recreational swim with a disc jockey on the deck from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1 Pool Plaza, off Delaware Road.

Free recreational skating pizza party, sponsored by the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Lincoln Arena.

International model boat demonstration, featuring submarines and sailboats in the pool, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1 Pool Plaza, off Delaware Road.
