Live Music & Live Art event set for Feb. 8

The Buffalo Society of Artists and the Carnegie Art Center will present Live Music & Live Art from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Carnegie Art Center, 240 Goundry St., North Tonawanda.

The event will feature a jazz performance by The Pinnavaia/ Mastrantonio Duo and simultaneous sketch session by members of the BSA. Admission costs $10 per person.

Live Music & Live Art will showcase the musical talents of Joseph Pinnavaia and Vincent James Mastrantonio, while allowing artists to hone their skills in a group setting.

Artists who wish to attend are asked to bring their own supplies. Drawing or water-based media are acceptable. An optional warm-up sketch session for BSA members will start at 6:30 p.m.

Pinnavaia and Mastrantonio formed a duo in the fall of 2012. Both were well-known guitar players who wanted to try something “out of the box,” according to the center. The result is a guitar duo that can perform anything from jazz standards to modern R & B with their own style coined as “shred jazz.”

The center is open from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays. This event is sponsored in part by the Buffalo Society of Artists, the City of North Tonawanda and the members of the Carnegie Art Center.

The Carnegie Art Center is situated in a structure built in 1904 as the City of North Tonawanda’s public library and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1976, the Carnegie has been operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation offering the community art exhibitions, art and dance classes, as well as support to artists and art organizations.
