NT man accused of burglarizing church

Forty-year-old Robert Wasyl of North Tonawanda has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with burglary in the second degree, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn.

Wasyl allegedly burglarized the rectory at St. Timothy’s Church on East Park Drive in the Town of Tonawanda on Sept. 11. The victim, a priest who resides in the rectory, awoke to a man inside his bedroom. Wasyl is accused of stealing money and a watch before fleeing, police said.

In January 2007, Wasyl was convicted of burglarizing the same church rectory. If convicted on the recent charge, Wasyl faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Brian D. Lagenfeld of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau is prosecuting the case.
