COMMUNITY INPUT — To make sure residents have a voice in its MomeNTum Downtown Placemaking Plan, the City of North Tonawanda has scheduled a series of public workshops and walking tours of the city’s downtown.

The workshops and tours will take place between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at the North Tonawanda Farmers Market, 310 Robinson St., North Tonawanda.

Collectively titled “A Community Conversation,” the workshop and tour event will allow community leaders, residents, business owners and other stakeholders to help select projects to improve the city’s central business district.

The city created the placemaking plan after learning it had received $2.5 million last year as part of the $20 million Smart Growth Community Fund Buffalo Billion II initiative.

Similar to efforts taking place in the City of Dunkirk, City of Lackawanna and the Village of Gowanda, the plan focuses on projects that make use of existing infrastructure to support placemaking, walkable communities and sustainable development.

The city expects its plan and associated projects will “foster economic prosperity by promoting walkability, vibrancy, urban development, and local sense of place and quality of life.”

MEAT WINNINGS — If you’ve never experienced the odd but enjoyable pastime known as the meat raffle, you’ll have two chances to get in on the fun this week and next.

Coming up first, Cardinal O’Hara High School’s Home School Association will be holding a meat and basket raffle at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the high school, 39 O’Hara Road, Tonawanda.

The event will feature a grand prize raffle of a freezer filled with meat, and a 50/50 split drawing. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the first spin of the night will take place at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, and includes beer, wine and soft drinks.

Next week, the Kenmore Lions Club will be hosting a meat raffle beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the AMVETS Medallion Post 13, 25 Review Place, Buffalo.

The evening will include spins from 7 to 9 p.m., 50/50 drawings at 8 and 9 p.m., a lotto board with a $50 bill, and a grand finale spin to end the night.

Admission is $5 per person, and includes one serving of beer, pop, or wine. There will also be a cash bar and food available for purchase.

No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed. To reserve a table, call 876-8379.
