Town man charged with public lewdness

William Tingler William Tingler Town of Tonawanda resident William Tingler, 69, has been arrested and charged with public lewdness and second-degree harassment following an alleged incident at approximately 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26 on Glenalby Road in the town.

According to the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, a neighbor allegedly observed Tingler engaging in a lewd act in plain view from a public place, and reported him.

Town of Tonawanda Police Lt. Thomas Haynes did not elaborate on what lewd act Tingler was accused of, arguing that providing specific details could lead to prejudice.

According to state Penal Law section 245.00, a person is guilty of public lewdness when he or she intentionally exposes the private or intimate parts of his or her body in a lewd manner or commits other lewd acts in a public place, or does the same in a private setting where he or she may be observed from a public or private place.

Tingler was brought before Judge Daniel Cavarello in Town of Tonawanda Court, where an order of protection was issued on behalf of his neighbor. Tingler was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear with his attorney for further proceedings on Nov. 8.
